She was mourned long and loudly by her mother; when the egg never hatched, Adair knew something was wrong. As her siblings emerged from their eggs, D'naei awoke as if from slumber and looked around with bubbly joy... but her hatching was not one of eggshells cracking. Her soul, not her body, emerged from the glossy egg and stepped into the new world, unaware that she was dead...

Appearance

Small - usually about the size of a middling dog - D'naei is a she-gryphon who appears to be a fledgling of indeterminant age. She can control what size and age she appears to a certain extent (anywhere from hatchling to pre-adolescent but no older, and not larger than a wolf), at will, though she lacks physical mass entirely. She is ethereal, and the edges of her feathers and extremities may spin away into mist if she doesn't concentrate. Sometimes she may not be visible at all, and not realize this until someone who can see ghosts tells her.

When visible, D'naei resembles an even mix of grandmane and sleekwing, a blend of her mother and father. She has long tufted ears, short but broad wings, and a tail like a snow leopard's. Her fur is of medium length and silky, with a base of white streaked through with spots and flecks of rust-red, the same color on each cheek, down her back, through her mane, and across her underbelly. The same hue is interspersed through her wings, and a darker shade can be found in her eyes. Black touches her wings, cloaks her beack and neck, ear tufts, and can be seen in a variety of stripes across her sides. Her claws are black, and always visible on her large, fluffy paws.

Personality

D'naei has never fully grasped that the day of her 'hatching' - the 7th day of Meiva in the year 13030 - was also the day of her death. She was a stillborn, emerging from her snow-white egg as a ghost completely unaware that she had suffocated within her shell mere hours before she should have hatched. She still doesn't appear to know - or care - that she is but a mere spirit, and has accepted this existence without any grief.

Little D'naei is bright and bubbly, happy with almost everything. She is worry-free and seemingly immune to the darkness that touches her siblings and mother, free of the Reaper's influence entirely. Very little seems to affect her, and she is almost never seen without a smile.

However, she is also quite blind to the emotions of others - she doesn't detect when someone else wants to be left alone, or doesn't feel as happy as she does. She can't understand sorrow, other than it's Bad, and often reacts in an effort to cheer someone up relentlessly (whether it's working or not).

Abilities

As a ghost, D'naei is able to phase through physical objects with ease, sometimes unintentionally. She may take a true physical presence but rarely, as she isn't strong or focused enough to do so currently. However, she can (usually) keep herself visible to others, and make herself invisible when she wants, though she does tend to forget and must be reminded now and again by those that may see ghosts if she has forgotten to remain in sight. Generally, there is a slight translucence to her even at the best of times.

D'naei is skilled in seeing the auras of others, sensing residual energy, and spotting other ghosts and spirits who do not wish the living to see them. She can cross over to the Ghost Realm and Spirit Realm with relative ease, if she wants - though both scare her, and she much prefers to stay near her mother instead.

Otherwise, she has no real offensive capabilities of note. She is able to summon silvery white fire - her reiatsu - speckled in flecks of red, but doesn't know how to direct or control it let alone attack with it at all. She often summons it to play with, forming rough shapes out of it, or even meager semi-solid movable figures much as her mother can. She cannot, however, call upon it in any great amount and it will disappear if she loses focus.
